Abstract

Indonesia continues to face relatively high unemployment among higher-education graduates, indicating persistent challenges in graduate employability and career readiness. Although entrepreneurship is increasingly promoted as an alternative career pathway, entrepreneurial intention among students remains relatively limited. This study investigates how environmental support in entrepreneurship education settings contributes to entrepreneurial intention through entrepreneurial mindset and entrepreneurial self-efficacy while examining the moderating role of gender. Using a census sampling approach, data were collected from 166 final-year associate degree management students who had completed an entrepreneurship practicum course in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The sample represented 94.3% of the target population and exceeded the minimum sample size indicated by statistical power analysis. Data were analysed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM), with gender moderation assessed through interaction terms rather than measurement-invariance-based multi-group analysis. The findings indicate that environmental support positively influences entrepreneurial mindset, entrepreneurial self-efficacy, and entrepreneurial intention. Entrepreneurial mindset enhances entrepreneurial self-efficacy but does not directly predict entrepreneurial intention. Entrepreneurial self-efficacy serves as a key mechanism through which environmental support and entrepreneurial mindset contribute to entrepreneurial intention, and the serial mediation pathway is supported. Gender significantly moderates the relationships between entrepreneurial mindset and entrepreneurial intention, and between entrepreneurial self-efficacy and entrepreneurial intention, whereas the interaction between environmental support and entrepreneurial intention is not significant. These findings highlight the importance of strengthening university entrepreneurship education support environments while simultaneously developing students’ entrepreneurial mindset and entrepreneurial self-efficacy to foster entrepreneurial intention.
